Purchasing my first home with my husband was one of the most exciting and terrifying times of my life. The purchase came after a year of research around the functionality we wanted out of our first home, where we wanted it to be, what we could afford and even what we wanted it to look like. Working with our broker we discovered what we did and didn’t want, and he walked us through every unfamiliar corner of the journey. Finding that home brought me such a sense of security, of place and a real sense of accomplishment. I kept looking at real estate after we closed, at first out of habit but after a while it occurred to me that I had found a new passion and one I really wanted to pursue. So, now, after 3 years of staying at home with my little ones, I am following that interest with newfound fervor and reigniting my professional life as a broker affiliated with Group Estes Realty.
In my profession before this I worked in the world of salmon habitat restoration in several facets: crew supervisor, program manager and grant writer. That line of work, and my education before, has taught me so much about the importance of knowing your goals, researching a situation to meet those goals effectively and adjusting your work based on the reality of a situation. In addition, I have found that it is imperative that you have a team of knowledgeable people working in unison for the good of a project. Each project has so many moving parts it is essential to have a solid team with great communication and varied skill sets.
It’s the same when looking for the right property; buying our home taught me that it is so important to have knowledgeable people asking questions of you and for you to know what you want out of any given transaction, be it selling a property or finding the right home. Many people will only buy or sell a few properties in a lifetime and each of those transactions will have the potential to be challenging in different ways. Having trusted professionals who are proficient in real estate and that have your best interest at heart is the best way to minimize those potential challenges. It is for this reason that I am pleased to find myself seated at the table with a great real estate team, primed to dive into my new career and eager to support people in finding their perfect home or preparing them to sell a property.
I am also eager to have my current work support my previous work. I am a northwest native and have been in love with our wild rivers my whole life so it is no surprise that I will be working with my colleagues from the salmon recovery world to create events for any of you looking to get outside and play by the river. In addition, I will contribute a percentage of each closed transaction to local non-profits working to restore salmon habitat.
